YouTube Kids Recommended Inappropriate Videos to My Toddler
We have been using the YouTube Kids app through my account for my 2-year-old child since the service became available to us. Even though I configured the child's profile to allow only educational content such as TRT Çocuk, Diyanet Çocuk, and other approved learning channels, the app almost every day recommends and makes available videos containing horror, violence, aggressive behavior, profanity, and other themes that I believe may be harmful to a young child's development.
Although YouTube Kids is promoted as a safe digital environment for children, I am concerned that the platform continues to recommend and make accessible content that appears inappropriate for my child's age group. In my opinion, this raises serious concerns about whether the platform is adequately meeting its child safety responsibilities. After being exposed to this content, I have personally observed my child becoming frightened, emotionally distressed, and waking up at night scared.
I contacted YouTube and YouTube Kids Support regarding this issue, but the responses I received were unsatisfactory and did not lead to any meaningful improvement. Despite reporting the problem, the same issue continues to occur on a daily basis.
I request that the child profile on my account display only TRT Çocuk, Diyanet Çocuk, and other educational content that I have personally approved. I also ask that videos containing violence, horror, profanity, aggression, or other material that could negatively affect a child's development be completely blocked from my child's profile. In addition, I request that YouTube review and adjust the recommendation algorithm and content filtering for my account and provide me with a written explanation of the investigation and any actions taken.
As a platform that promises to provide a safe viewing experience for children, I expect YouTube Kids to treat this matter seriously and take the necessary steps without delay to better protect young users.
