I got a WhatsApp message from a +255 number claiming I won a giveaway I never entered—should I trust it?

This kind of message is almost always a scam. The country code for Tanzania is +255.

Do these things:

- Don't Participate: You can't win a giveaway if you didn't join it. This is often used as a scam hook.

- To "claim" the gift, they will ask for money, personal information, or bank information. This is a red flag that the deal is a scam.

- Look up the name of the company or giveaway on Google. Online, there are usually a lot of details about real freebies.

- Block and Report: To report the number, use WhatsApp's "Report" button. Then, block the number to stop getting texts from it.

- Set your WhatsApp privacy settings so that only people you know can see your profile picture and message.
