My 2022 Skoda Octavia Developed a Major 48V Alternator Failure at Only 38,000 KM

In 2022, I purchased my brand-new 2022 model Skoda Octavia 1.0 e-Tec Elite, and the vehicle has currently driven only 38,000 kilometers. Around 4–5 days ago, my vehicle started displaying warnings related to the 48V drive system, 12V system failure, and start-stop malfunction. Because of these warnings, I had the vehicle towed this morning to the authorized Mersin Kavi Skoda service center.

After the inspection at the service center, I was informed that the alternator had failed and needed to be replaced. I was told that the total replacement cost would exceed approximately $4,300, and that even with a 25% discount, the amount would still remain above approximately $3,200. In addition, I was informed that the required part is not available in the distributor’s stock, would need to be ordered from abroad, and would take more than 20 days to arrive. My vehicle is currently waiting at Mersin Kavi Skoda service because the part cannot yet be supplied.

I do not believe that such a serious alternator failure is acceptable in a vehicle with only 38,000 kilometers. During my research, I discovered that this issue has become a chronic and widespread problem both in Türkiye and internationally. I also found reports that some countries have initiated recalls related to this defect, and that in Türkiye many customers with the same issue have received free repairs or heavily discounted replacements under goodwill support policies. For this reason, I strongly believe that the problem I am experiencing is not related to user error but rather represents a chronic manufacturing defect.

Although my warranty period has expired, facing such a major repair expense in such a short period because of a known chronic issue has caused me serious financial and emotional distress as a consumer. I request that Yüce Auto and Doğuş Otomotiv become directly involved in this process together with Mersin Kavi Skoda service and provide a proper goodwill solution. Ideally, I expect this defective part to be replaced free of charge. If that is not possible, then I request that the repair cost at least be reduced to a reasonable amount through a very substantial goodwill discount.

I respectfully ask that my grievance be resolved and that my vehicle be restored to safe and reliable operating condition as quickly as possible and at a fair and reasonable cost.
