Opel Astra Defective Cylinder Head Gasket
I am writing to request your assistance regarding a serious technical issue with my Opel Astra Hatchback (Model Year 2020, F14SHT engine). The vehicle has a total mileage of 82,000 km and has been serviced exclusively at authorized Opel service centers. The car was taken to the authorized service due to a coolant loss issue. I was informed that there was no visible leakage, and therefore the coolant reservoir and cap were replaced. After a short period of driving, the coolant loss continued. A few days later, I brought the vehicle back for further inspection and was informed that the cylinder head gasket is defective. I have owned the vehicle since 45,000 km, and it has never overheated or been driven under harsh conditions. I have now been presented with a repair cost of approximately ₺140,000. Given the low mileage, vehicle age, and full Opel service history, I kindly request that this case be reviewed under goodwill consideration or that a significant discount on the repair costs be offered. I am contacting you from Turkey, where the vehicle is registered and the repair has been assessed by an authorized Opel service center.
Progress
Opel Astra hatchback, 2020 model with 82,000 km, whose all maintenance has been performed fully at an authorized service center, I left my car at the Opel Asal authorized service in Sarıyer, Istanbul on October 1 due to a cylinder head gasket failure. Since the first day, the car is still in the service center and they say a part is being awaited from abroad, but no clear information is given about when the part will arrive. Moreover, this fault has incurred an expense of about 140,000 TL for me.
During this process, I was provided with a replacement vehicle, but it was a lower‑class car compared to the segment of my own vehicle. The main problem is that for months there has been no clear and regular information about the progress of the process, the estimated arrival date of the part, and when my car will be returned. I am constantly left in uncertainty and I never receive a definite date or plan.
I request Opel to accelerate the parts procurement and repair process, to keep me regularly and transparently informed at every stage, and to address the hardship I have suffered, taking into account the high expense incurred for my car, which has all its maintenance done at the authorized service.
Opel headquarters said that the cylinder head gasket of the vehicle, which has had all its maintenance done at the authorized service and had its last maintenance a week ago, malfunctioned due to user error and did not offer any discount. The part for the vehicle is being awaited from abroad and it was stated that it will take about 1.5 months. Please take this into consideration when buying a car from Opel. The only positive aspect is that a replacement vehicle was provided.
It has been exactly 6.5 months and the car is still in service, with no solution offered beyond saying that parts are still being awaited. I have not been able to exercise my right to use my vehicle for six months. I am forced to start legal proceedings, hoping we can achieve a result on that front.
