My mother was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of OFM Hospital in Antalya on 19 September due to meningitis and unfortunately passed away there on 9 October. At the beginning, the medical care was professional and I felt that the doctors were doing their best. However, once the insurance policy limit was reached, the attitude of the hospital changed completely and the focus shifted from my mother’s health to financial issues. Although I repeatedly explained every day that our family could not afford the high treatment costs and clearly asked for her transfer to a public hospital, this transfer was deliberately delayed. The situation became so serious that the Embassy, the Honorary Consul in Antalya and the Provincial Health Directorate had to intervene before any real action was taken. After the insurance coverage was exhausted, some procedures that were important and necessary for her stabilization and survival were not carried out, which I find unacceptable. The hospital management showed no empathy or compassion and was only concerned with money instead of patient welfare. My emails remained unanswered, my official document requests were ignored and patient rights were not respected. After my mother died, the hospital refused to release her body until the financial issues were settled, which is, according to Turkish law, a criminal act and is also deeply unethical. I still cannot obtain basic information about the treatment. For more than two months I have been trying to get a response from Ms. N***, who works in the Human Rights / Patient Rights Department of the hospital, regarding the therapies my mother received, but I have not received any answer and I will probably have to pursue this with a Turkish lawyer. My clear and current request from OFM Hospital is to provide a complete and transparent record of my mother’s treatment. I specifically request a full list of all medications given to her, with exact doses, all infusions with their content and dosage, the timing and duration of each infusion, and in general every medical therapy and procedure that was applied to her during her stay from 19 September until her death on 9 October. I want this information to be shared with me in a clear and detailed manner, so that I can understand exactly what kind of treatment my mother received during her time in OFM Hospital.
