I am using an LG 55NANO796NE model television that I purchased from Vatan in Muğla in June 2021. On 01.04.2026, following a software update, a new user agreement related to the WebOS operating system appeared on my screen. I was seriously disturbed by both the scope of the data requested and the fact that approval of this agreement is mandatory. The agreement states that LG and a company named Alphonso may collect detailed information about viewed TV content, cable, satellite or set-top box usage, films, videos, music, channel and program names, viewing requests, and user actions such as play, pause, and clicks. It also mentions the collection of data from RF, HDMI, and network connections, and even direct audio signals from the TV’s sound system. Furthermore, it is stated that various insights, including potentially sensitive information, may be derived from this data using technologies such as ACR. The more critical issue is that if I do not approve this agreement, I am unable to use any WebOS features on my television. When I reject it, applications such as YouTube and the browser become completely inaccessible. However, at the time of purchase, neither in-store nor on your website was I informed that such extensive data sharing consent could become mandatory or that smart features would be blocked without approval. Although I use an external device and do not depend on WebOS, imposing such a contract after purchase and restricting core features based on consent is unacceptable. I contacted LG customer service regarding this issue, but I was informed that approval is mandatory and no alternative solution was offered. I request that this new WebOS agreement be removed for my device and that I be allowed to use the smart features under the original conditions at the time of purchase. If this is not possible and I am forced to accept these terms, I will pursue my legal rights, including requesting a refund. I kindly ask that my concerns regarding privacy and data security be taken seriously, that this practice be reviewed, and that a clear written response be provided.
