What I experienced in the Garanti BBVA mobile banking app is nothing short of a cybersecurity scandal. During a phone call I received, an unauthorized approval request was sent to the Garanti BBVA mobile app installed on my phone through a third-party application, even though I did not perform any action. This transaction, which was neither done from my device nor initiated by me, shows that someone else was able to access my account through their own banking application. This reveals an extremely serious vulnerability in the bank’s security infrastructure. Despite the fact that the incident occurred without any user error on my part, the responsibility was placed on me, and the insurance unit rejected my claim for the financial loss I suffered. This approach is completely contrary to fairness and to a banking system that prioritizes customer security. Under regulations and basic cybersecurity standards, the bank’s primary duty is to protect its customers. However, in my case, the app was accessed externally, the approval was not made by me, an unauthorized transaction was carried out, and the bank’s security measures failed to prevent the breach. Despite all these technical and legal facts, placing the financial burden on me is an unfair practice that clearly victimizes the consumer. I request that this security breach be acknowledged as the bank’s systemic fault, that the full amount withdrawn from my account without my knowledge or consent be refunded to me, and that the unjust rejection issued by the insurance unit be immediately reversed. Otherwise, I will file complaints with BDDK, the Insurance Arbitration Commission, and all relevant authorities, and I will share all details to ensure full transparency. It is unacceptable for customer security to be this weak and for the responsibility to be pushed onto the customer.
