Continental EcoContact 6 Tires Lost Traction and Braking Performance
I purchased my 2023 Ford Focus 1.5 EcoBlue brand new in January 2024. The vehicle was delivered from the factory with Continental EcoContact 6 215/50 R17 tires. I am the only person who drives the vehicle, as it is a vehicle adapted for a disabled driver, and I do not have an aggressive or harsh driving style. Despite this, I had been experiencing problems with these tires from the very beginning, including the vehicle losing traction while turning and slipping during braking.
On December 29, 2024, when the vehicle had 14,000 km on it, I had my first accident while traveling at approximately 50 km/h. Although the accident report determined that I was not at fault, the accident occurred because the vehicle failed to stop and instead lost traction while I was braking. I later learned that similar problems had reportedly been experienced with many of the 2023-production Continental EcoContact 6 tires fitted to Ford Focus vehicles. Given the alleged widespread problems with this series, I find it difficult to understand why the tires were not recalled and why affected customers were not provided with any remedy. I believe that if these tires had not been installed on my vehicle, I most likely would not have had this accident. I have been using Continental tires for years, and these are the only tires that have ever caused me problems—the tires that came installed on my brand-new vehicle.
I had my second accident on June 26, 2026. My vehicle was parked on a side street when another vehicle struck it, causing my car to be pushed approximately 2 meters. At the time, my vehicle had 34,500 km on it and was still equipped with the same Continental EcoContact 6 tires. After taking my vehicle to a service center following this accident, I learned that there had been numerous complaints about this particular tire series. This made me realize that the traction and braking problems I had experienced were apparently not simply a coincidence.
When I first purchased the vehicle, I also verbally raised my concerns with the Continental tire dealer. At the time, I was told that there were no widespread complaints about the tires, and the matter was essentially dismissed without any inspection or solution being offered. At this point, I have lost confidence in both the brand and these tires, and I believe they should have been replaced long ago.
I believe the inadequate traction and braking performance of these tires contributed to both of the accidents I experienced. I request that Continental conduct a thorough technical investigation into the 2023-production EcoContact 6 215/50 R17 tires supplied on Ford Focus vehicles, consider issuing a general recall or safety campaign for this tire series, and replace the tires currently installed on my vehicle free of charge with a safer series. I am concerned that other drivers using tires from the same production series may be exposed to similar risks. I therefore ask Continental to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and take appropriate action to resolve my complaint.
