My Burberry bag’s serial number doesn’t match online, what can I do?

Since Burberry doesn't have a public database where bag serial numbers can be checked, numbers often don't "match" anything online. People who sell fakes sometimes make up or repeat codes, so a mismatch isn't always proof that something is fake.

Checking where you bought the bag is the safest thing to do. Only Burberry boutiques, Burberry.com, and authorized retailers can promise that the bag is real. If you bought it somewhere else, ask the seller for the original papers and proof that you bought it.

You can also find the exact same bag on Burberry's website and compare yours to it. Check out the brand engraving, stitching, lining, and hardware weight. A bad finish, logos that aren't lined up right, or light plastic parts are all red flags.
