Bluesky appealed to me as a distributed substitute for mainstream social media, however the experience has been letdown. The platform still feels centralised even with open protocols and user control offering promise. Either undeveloped or nonexistent are features like user data portability and independent server hosting. Customer service is also nonexistent; problems with account functionality or content moderation go unpackled. Though it has promise, Bluesky does not now meet the standards it set. It's difficult to advocate the platform until decentralisation and improved client interaction take front stage.
