I Was Charged an Annual Fee on My Credit Card and Denied Full Refund
On 08.08.2025, an annual membership fee of ₺1,149.50 was charged to my Axess credit card. I had been regularly using my Axess card for about a year, and even the installments for my annually renewed home insurance from Akbank were processed through this card. I contacted customer service three times regarding this issue, but in all three calls, the representatives showed a very indifferent attitude. I felt as if explaining my problem meant nothing to them, and I never received any follow-up about the resolution process. With many other banks, both state and private, I was able to resolve the same issue with a single call—receiving a full refund without being offered “half” or “promotional money.” At Akbank, however, I was first told that half of the fee could be refunded, then offered ₺650 in chip money. I refused both offers and demanded a full refund. Afterwards, I requested the cancellation of my card, which was processed quickly. Despite doing all my banking and bill payments through Akbank, and even being a salary customer, the membership fee deduction and the lack of any steps taken toward customer satisfaction left me very disappointed. It is truly surprising and upsetting that such a large bank operates with these kinds of staff and principles. I no longer wish to work with Akbank and will advise everyone around me to be more cautious. My expectation from Akbank is a full refund of the ₺1,149.50 membership fee charged to me.
