You can take the following actions to better manage your storage space and stop WhatsApp from automatically downloading media files:

Turn Off Auto-Download in Full:

• Once WhatsApp is open, select Settings.
• Click or tap "Storage and data."
• Roaming, Wi-Fi, and mobile data options are all under "Media auto-download."
• For every network connection—mobile data, Wi-Fi, and roaming—uncheck all the media types (photos, audio, videos, and documents).

Adapt Auto-Download Depending on the Network:

• Take the above-mentioned steps 1-3.
• Select which media types to download automatically for each network connection, rather than unchecking everything. For instance, you might only permit photo downloads over Wi-Fi and completely prohibit them over mobile data.

Turn Off Auto-Download for Particular Groups:

• To regulate downloads, open the group chat that needs to be controlled.
• Press the name of the group or the topic at the top.
• Go with "Media visibility."
• Select "No" to stop your phone from automatically saving any media that you download from the group to its storage.
