I’m seeing irritation after switching to Clinique’s 3-step system, why would Clinique cause that?

Clinique's 3-Step method includes a facial soap that foams or runs, a toner with alcohol called Clarifying Lotion, and a moisturizer that is dramatically different.

Especially for sensitive skin, the toner has denatured alcohol and salicylic acid in it, which can strip the skin of its oils and make it dry, hot, or sting.

The lotion also has sesame oil and stearic acid, which may clog pores or irritate the skin of some users.

Clinique says that its products were created by dermatologists and don't have any scents, but not all of them are gentle. Irritation is often caused by too much cleansing or being sensitive to one of the active ingredients.
