When you join a Clash of Clans war, your clan's total war weight is used to match you with other clans. This means that your clan's mix of rushed and maxed bases can make it feel unfair.
To get more even opponents, tell your clan members to improve defenses and troops at the same rate instead of rushing through Town Hall levels. Rushing through bases weakens your clan's overall strength while still attracting stronger enemies.
During war, keeping clan lists small can also help balance things because it's easier to match people when there are fewer accounts to look at.
Some clans even use "engineered bases" or carefully handle upgrades to keep war weight in check.
However, Supercell has since fixed the system to make it harder to take advantage of, so the safest way is to make sure that all of your bases are well-upgraded and evenly distributed across your war roster.
