Samsonite Worldwide Warranty Wasn't Honored
Samsonite advertises its products as being backed by a worldwide warranty, but that has not been my experience. If you purchased a Samsonite or American Tourister suitcase in the United States or Asia, don't expect that warranty to be honored in Türkiye. I brought my American Tourister carry-on suitcase, which I purchased in Asia, to the Samsonite store at Vadi Istanbul on March 17 for a repair.
At first, I was told the suitcase had been repaired, but nothing had actually been fixed. I sent it back again and was told they were waiting for replacement parts. Later, I was told I would receive a refund. After another follow-up, they said a refund was no longer possible and offered a replacement instead. Then they changed their position again, saying they would apply a trade-in credit toward a new suitcase. The amount I would still have had to pay was nearly the price of another suitcase, so I declined and simply asked for my original suitcase to be returned. I was told it would arrive from the service center the following week, but when I called again, I was informed that it still had not arrived.
It has now been four months, and I have made dozens of phone calls trying to resolve this issue. I eventually learned that DESA Çanta is the authorized representative for Samsonite and American Tourister in Türkiye. In my opinion, these well-known brands are being represented very poorly.
My advice to anyone considering buying Samsonite or American Tourister is to think carefully before relying on the company's advertised worldwide warranty.
