As of early 2025, Nintendo has not announced an official end date for eShop and online services on the Switch. But there are some benchmarks from past consoles:
Support for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U lasted about 10 years, after which the eShop was gradually shut down.
Since the Switch was released in 2017, online services will almost certainly run until 2030, and the eShop will remain for at least several more years after the release of the Switch 2.
Nintendo has already confirmed that the Switch and Switch 2 will coexist for some time, and the Switch’s game library won’t lose support immediately.
Most likely:
Online games and cloud saves will remain available for several years after the launch of the Switch 2.
The eShop on the original Switch will close later, once the number of active users drops significantly.
