With a foreign driver's license, you can rent a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car:
• Valid driver's license:
The driver must show a valid, unexpired driver's license with a photo from their home country. The use of digital licenses is prohibited.
• The driver's license's language:
An international driver's permit is advised but not necessary for translation if the home country driver's license is in a language other than English (or French, for rentals in Canada) and the letters are in English (e.g., German, Spanish).
An International Driver's Permit is necessary if the home country driver's license is issued in a language other than English and the letters are written in that language (such as Arabic, Japanese, or Russian).
• Permit for International Driving (IDP):
In some situations, it is advised to use the IDP in addition to the driver's license from the home country for translation purposes. It is not regarded as legitimate identification on its own and is not a license.
• Extra Official Government Documentation:
Certain offices—such as those in Arizona, California, Georgia, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, and Colorado—may require customers to present additional official government documentation.
Some notes to remember:
- Driver's license photocopies are not accepted.
- Permits for learners are not accepted.
- They don’t accept licenses that limit the licensee to using a car that has a breathalyzer device installed in it.
If the rental location cannot confirm the customer's identity or the validity of the temporary license, temporary driver's licenses may be refused. You might need more official identification from the government.
