Proton VPN asks for my login but still won’t connect — how can I resolve login failures?

If Proton VPN asks for your login but still won’t connect and you want to fix login failures quickly;

Check your account and credentials first;

• Make sure your email and password are correct
• Try logging in at protonvpn.com to confirm your account works
• Check if your account is free / paid and not expired
• Disable any VPN, proxy, or DNS already running

Check for app or connection issues;

• Fully close and reopen Proton VPN
• Update the app to the latest version
• Restart your device
• Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data

Change connection settings;

• Open Proton VPN → Settings
• Switch protocol (WireGuard ↔ OpenVPN ↔ Smart)
• Disable Kill Switch temporarily and retry
• Try connecting to a different server/location

Log out and reset login;

• Log out of Proton VPN completely
• Log back in using your email (not username)
• If needed, reset your password and try again

Reinstall if needed;

• Uninstall Proton VPN
• Restart your device
• Reinstall and log in fresh
